Using templates

Start a document

Open a template from the catalogue and choose Fill in template. Craftadoc creates a new document from the template's example values, so you start from a finished example and replace what you need. You need a free account to save documents.

The form

The form on the left is generated from the template. Fields show their limits as you type:

  • Text fields may have a maximum length; the field won't accept more.
  • Optional fields can be left empty. The template then leaves that part out, for example a LinkedIn line in a CV.
  • Lists let you add, remove and reorder items with the arrow buttons.
  • Rich text fields accept a little Markdown: **bold**, *italic*, [a link](https://example.com), and lists that start with - .
  • Icons open a picker with all Font Awesome icons; search by name, such as phone, github or house.
  • Colours have a colour picker and also accept codes such as #566ef5.
  • Choices show as a menu or as buttons; a choice of several options shows a checkbox for each.
  • Images that need a certain shape, such as a round photo, first let you choose what to show: drag the image to move it and zoom in. They're resized in your browser before they're uploaded, so uploads stay quick.

If a value isn't valid, the field turns red and explains what's wrong. Your document is still saved, as a draft, and the PDF button takes you to the first field to fix.

Fill in with AI

Signed in, you can let AI fill in the form for you: choose Start above the form, then paste your notes, an email or an old CV, attach PDFs or photos (up to 3), or press Dictate and say what should go in. You can also ask for a change, such as "make it shorter" or "translate it into Spanish".

The result goes straight into the form and the preview. Check it, and use Undo if you don't like it. A note says what the AI couldn't fill in. Images and icons stay as they are.

Your text and files are sent to Claude (by Anthropic) only to fill in the form, and dictation is transcribed by Cloudflare; Craftadoc doesn't keep them. Each plan includes a number of AI fill-ins per month: 3 on Free, 20 on Personal and 100 on Pro.

Other designs

Some templates share the same form with a different design, such as a CV in two layouts. They're listed as Compatible templates on each other's pages, and in the editor under Other designs. Choose a design there to move your document to it: everything you filled in comes along. Your colours come along too, unless you uncheck Keep my colours to take the new design's own. If the new design has other limits, for example a shorter summary, the fields that don't fit are marked with what to change, and Fill in with AI is ready to shorten them for you.

Preview and saving

The preview on the right updates shortly after you stop typing. Valid changes are saved automatically; the status next to the title shows when everything is saved. Every save keeps a revision, so nothing is overwritten.

Download

Choose PDF in the editor, or the download button in My documents. The PDF always reflects the last saved version.

My documents

My documents shows a small picture of each document. Search by title, filter by template, by when you last changed it or by share link submissions, and sort by last change, creation date or title. Folders keep things apart; deleted documents stay in Recently deleted for a while.

To make a variant, such as a CV for each job application, use Duplicate (the copy button) next to a document or in the editor. The copy lands in the same folder as "… (copy)" and counts as a saved document.

Templates you like (the heart on a template's page) are listed in the catalogue under Liked.
