Write templates with AI

AI coding assistants are good at Typst, and with a little guidance they write Craftadoc templates too. We wrote that guidance down as a skill: instructions an assistant such as Claude Code loads when it works on a Craftadoc template. It covers the folder, craftadoc.json, the form fields, the helper package, sizes, fonts and the checks to do before you publish.

Install the skill

Download SKILL.md and save it as:

~/.claude/skills/craftadoc-template/SKILL.md

Claude Code finds it there in every project. Other assistants can read the same file: add it to your project, or paste it at the start of a conversation.

Then ask

Open an empty folder with the Typst kit (the helper package and fonts) and describe what you want:

Make a Craftadoc template for a one-page wedding menu, A5 and US Letter, with the couple's names, the date, up to five courses and a closing line. Elegant, with a script font.

Your assistant writes craftadoc.json, example.json and main.typ, compiles it with the kit, and looks at the result. Check the PDF yourself, try long and short values, and publish it.

To convert a template you already have (LaTeX, Word, an old PDF), give your assistant the file and ask it to turn it into a Craftadoc template.
